In this study, levels of IL-1, IL-10 and MCP-1 following the glycans mutant 2009 H1N1 virus infection were significantly higher compared with a less virulent wild H1N1 virus, similar to the results in the study by Itoh et al., which demonstrated elevated levels of cytokines from CA/4 virus compared with a less virulent seasonal H1N1 virus [35]. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is swine influenza.
