Craig et al. reported the strong downregulation of the putative tumor suppressor miRNA, miR-203, in human MALT lymphoma samples, which results from extensive promoter hypermethylation of the miR-203 locus and coincides with the deregulation of its target, ABL1. Treatment of lymphoma B cells with demethylating agents leads to increased miR-203 expression and concomitant downregulation of ABL1, confirming the effectiveness of epigenetic regulation of this miRNA. Here, ABL1 is linked to neoplasm.
