Vascular endothelial cells predominantly express VEGFR-1 (with VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PlGF as ligands) and VEGFR-2 (with VEGF-A as its main ligand [29]), whereas VEGFR-3 (binding VEGF-D and VEGF-E [30]) is mostly found in lymphatic endothelial cells controlling lymphangiogenesis, but can also be expressed in tumor vessels or chronic inflammatory wounds [16,31,32]. The gene discussed is KDR; the disease is neoplasm.
