As an acknowledged inhibitor of mTOR and inducer of autophagy, rapamycin has also been used in many other neurodegenerative diseases' models, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD), to induce autophagy, to restore mTOR signaling from hyperactivity to normal levels and to decrease translation [13], [14], [15], [16]. This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and neurodegenerative disease.
