As the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFNγ, TNFα and IL-17) by T cells is known to enhance the resolution of infection [28], [52]-[55] and anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10) inhibit the clearance of a chlamydial respiratory tract infection [28], [52], these vaccinations primed the ideal response necessary to eradicate an active infection.
