The potential role of the ARMS2 and HTRA1 gene in AMD is still unclear but functional dissection of the effect of the rs11200638 promoter variant in the HTRA1 gene has revealed that this variant resides within a putative transcription binding site for the factors AP2α and SRF (serum response factor) [3,4]. This evidence concerns the gene ARMS2 and age-related macular degeneration.
