PSME3 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Moriishi et al. has reported that mature (amino acids 1–173) and more truncated (amino acids 1–151) forms of HCV core protein can bind to PA28γ in the nucleus and hence induces liver steatosis and HCC development through a PA28γ-dependent pathway in core gene-transgenic mice [11], [12], suggesting that the nuclear localization of the truncated core proteins may function as a transcriptional factor or regulator.
