It has been well established by a series of independent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) that ORMDL3 is a risk factor for the development of many immune-related diseases, e.g. asthma, recurrent wheeze, ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis, type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7].
