Furthermore, sensitivity analyses in which we 1) used a wider FT4 reference range with normal FT4 values between 10.3 pmol/L and 25.7 pmol/L; 2) excluded all participants who started thyroid hormone therapy and/or antithyroid medications and/or amiodarone during follow-up (n = 138); 3) excluded all participants who developed heart failure during follow-up (n = 200); and 4) only included participants with persistent subclinical hyperthyroidism (n = 41) or hypothyroidism (n = 90) or persistent euthyroidism (n = 4447), did not show any differences of our results (data not shown).
