In multiple myeloma, methylation of the VHL promoter has been shown to correlate with bone disease [20] and methylation of the bcl-2 interacting killer (BIK) promoter has been shown to predict relapsed/refractory disease [21], while methylated FHIT has been shown to be an independent adverse prognostic factor [53].
