The first study of leukemia stem cells (LSCs) demonstrated that a subpopulation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells, defined as CD34+ CD38− and shared similar cell surface marker expression patterns with normal hematopoietic progenitor cells, may cause the malignancies continue to relapse as a consequence of resistance to chemotherapies [5, 6]. Here, CD34 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
