Given that the Wnt/β-catenin-signalling pathway has been suggested to be abnormal in a side population of HNSCC cell lines and that LGR5 has been detected in the oral tissues of mice, further investigation into the effect of abnormal Wnt signalling in HNSCC on the expression of LGR5 and its candidature as a CSC marker in HNSCC may yield important insights into the behaviour of CSCs in HNSCC leading to superior prognostic and therapeutic strategies [129, 130]. This evidence concerns the gene LGR5 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
