BGLAP and diabetes mellitus: Patients with diabetes had significantly higher mean levels of salivary acid phosphatase (83.08 ± 6.85 vs 20.55 ± 1.99 U/L) (P < 0.001), alkaline phosphatase (40.51 ± 4.83 vs 7.34 ± 1.28 U/L) (P < 0.001), osteocalcin (5.83 ± 1.41 vs 4.97 ± 1.35 ng/mL) (P = 0.020) and osteopontin (12.49 ± 1.78 vs 2.44 ± 0.80 μg/mL) (P < 0.001) than healthy subjects (Figs. 1,2).
