Increasing evidence shows that aberrations in HAT or HDAC activity and in histone acetylation are linked to the development of certain cancers (Cress and Seto, 2000; Pandolfi, 2001; Timmermann et al., 2001; Verdin et al., 2003), including gynecologic cancers (Caslini et al., 2006; Hrzenjak et al., 2006). The gene discussed is HDAC9; the disease is female reproductive organ cancer.
