This result is based on our observations that (1) WDR66 is specifically highly expressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and high WDR66 expression correlates with poor overall survival, (2) WDR66 regulates vimentin and occludin expression and plays a crucial role for EMT, and (3) knockdown of WDR66 suppresses cell growth and motility and decreases cell viability of ESCC cells. The gene discussed is OCLN; the disease is esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
