Multivariate analysis showed that these increases were linked to gender (ICAM-1, leptin, TNF-α and adiponectin), a higher body mass index (leptin, adiponectin), presence of hyperglycemia or diabetes (CCL4 and OPG), reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol or increased triglyceride (adiponectin and PTX3) levels, or presence of metabolic syndrome (CCL2, leptin, and adiponectin). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
