ASIC1, ASIC2 and ASIC3 seem to have different roles in neurosensory mechanotransduction and are involved in many pathological processes, including neurogenic inflammation, chronic pain, hypertension, heart failure, gastroesophageal reflex disease, irritable bowel syndrome, interstitial cystitis, hearing loss, tooth sensitivity and body balance. Here, ASIC2 is linked to interstitial cystitis.
