Considering the anti-apoptotic functions of NF-κB, and in particular, of its p65 subunit [38]–[40], AIP56-mediated depletion of NF-κB p65 likely explains the disseminated phagocyte apoptosis observed in Phdp infections that contributes to subvert the host immune response and determines the outcome of the infection [17], [19], [21].
