In subsequent association mapping studies, several SNPs with nominally significant associations with T2D are mapped to or near TREH, UBASH3B, KIRREL3 and SNX19. Some of the most strongly associated variants are in or near the potential candidate gene TREH (Hanson et al. 2006), which codes for trehalase. The gene discussed is UBASH3B; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
