Myocarditis is an inflammatory heart condition that can be caused by common viral pathogens with a direct myopathic effect such as, for example coxsackievirus B3 virus (CVB3; Rose, 2009), and is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate composed of abundant myeloid cells and CD4+ T lymphocytes, features that are reproduced in the EAM murine model (Baldeviano et al, 2010; Nindl et al, 2012). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is myocarditis.
