The benefit demonstrated by the addition of pertuzumab—a drug that inhibits HER2-HER3 heterodimerization—to trastuzumab in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer supports the importance of this heterodimer in the proliferation of tumor cells with HER2 overexpression or amplification [41] and suggests this new monoclonal antibody is a potentially effective agent for the treatment of gastric cancer [42]. The gene discussed is ERBB2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
