To explore the role of Sox2 and other iPS factors in cancer, we ectopically expressed these factors in HCT116 human colorectal cancer cells and found that Sox2, but not Nanog, Lin28 or Oct4, induced severe vacuole formation in the cytoplasm, which is an important marker of macroautophagy [25] (Fig. 1A). This evidence concerns the gene NANOG and colorectal cancer.
