In addition, although two proteins, the β subunit of the nascent polypeptide associated complex (NAC) and the plant lipoxygenase 2 (AtLOX2), have been proposed to be the plant analogs of the mammalian 4E-BPs [30,31], no evidence for changes in translation mediated by these proteins has been described neither in vitro nor in vivo. Moreover, cap-dependent translation is unlikely to be completely inhibited upon infection, as some plant viruses synthesized capped mRNAs and the translation of other relies on an active eIF4F complex [32,33]. The gene discussed is EIF4E; the disease is infection.
