A large study in 18014 middle aged Danish subjects examined 15 genetic variations from 14 loci and showed that the A allele of rs4923461 displayed a borderline BMI-dependent protective effect on T2DM, whereas SH2B1 rs7498665 was associated with a nominally BMI-independent increased risk of T2DM [25]. Here, SH2B1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
