PTH and chronic kidney disease: CKD leads to increased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and decreased levels of circulating 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25D) along with hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, bone disease, vascular calcification and cardiovascular morbidities collectively referred to as chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) [3], [4], [5].
