When the sample was classified according to the presence of central obesity, the adolescents with waist circumference ≥ 75th percentile presented higher mean insulin (10.9 mU/ml ± 6.5 vs. 5.8 mU/ml ± 3.8, p < 0.001) and HOMA-IR (2.2 ± 1.4 vs. 1.1 ± 0.8, p < 0.001) than those with waist circumference < 75th percentile.
