In a study on sera from patients with ovarian cancer, compared with sera from patients with benign masses or different type of cancer, it has been shown that the chemokines CC2 motif ligand 18 (CCL18) and CXC motif ligand 1 (CXCL1), identified by MALDI-MS/MS analysis and further validated by ELISA, can be considered as novel circulating tumor markers for differential diagnosis between ovarian cancer and benign masses (sensitivity 92%, specificity 97%) [48]. The gene discussed is CXCL1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
