Our group published one of the first works in this field [25] showing that a polymorphism (rs1279683) in the vitamin C co-transporter gene (a sodium L-ascorbic acid co-transporter [SVCT], isoform SVCT2, encoded by the solute carrier family 23 member 2 gene [SLC23A2]) was associated with lower plasma vitamin C concentrations and also with higher POAG risk. Here, SLC23A2 is linked to open-angle glaucoma.
