Some researchers have proposed that susceptibility to prostate cancer is determined by heightened sensitivity toward androgens resulting from the number of CAG and GGC microsatellites in exon 1 of the androgen receptor gene (Irvine et al. 1995; Giovannucci et al. 1997; Ross et al. 1998) and that the distribution of nucleotide polymorphisms is linked to ancestry (Kubricht et al. 1999; Pettaway 1999; Mohler 2007).
