Taken together, the finding that tau phosphorylation in S396/404 via RIM11 is increased in the presence of ASYN is in accordance with what has been described in other models, where it was demonstrated that in vitro ASYN directly stimulates tau phosphorylation via GSK3β[61], while in vivo and in post-mortem brain from PD high levels of active GSK3β and hyperphosphorylated tau were observed [62], [63].
