In T2-DM with microangiopathic complications (either renal or retinal or both), only total plasma protein carbonyls (384±170 pmol/mg vs 270±110 pmol/mg p = 0.023) and VWF-bound carbonyls (92±20 vs 35±8 pmol/mg, p = 0.022) were found significantly increased compared with not microangiopathic patients (Figure 2). The gene discussed is VWF; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
