In asthmatic individuals, Aspergillus sensitization, or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), is characterized by exacerbations of asthma, recurrent transient chest radiographic infiltrates, expectoration of thick mucus plugs, blood and pulmonary eosinophilia, and increased total serum and fungus-specific IgE levels.
