Top-ranking gene sets associated with poor survival include genes up-regulated in MCF7 breast cancer cells treated with hypoxia mimetic DMOG, genes down-regulated in MCF7 cells after knockdown of HIF1A and HIF2A, genes regulated by hypoxia based on literature searches, genes up-regulated in response to both hypoxia and overexpression of an active form of HIF1A, and genes down-regulated in fibroblasts with defective XPC (an important DNA damage response protein) in response to cisplatin (Figure 6, Table 5). The gene discussed is XPC; the disease is breast carcinoma.
