KDR and bacterial infectious disease with sepsis: In C57bl6 wildtype animals, recurrent bacteremia with P. gingivalis did not impair clinical status of the animals, but lead to strongly increased peripheral count of Sca1+/flk1+ progenitors (control vs. test: 1.0±0.09 vs. 2.80±0.30, p<0.0001) with concomitantly decreased counts in bone marrow (control vs. test: 1.0±0.03 vs. 0.54±0.06, p<0.0001; figure 1).
