Up-regulation of the heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF), a member of the EGF family, in glomerular epithelial cells has been documented in animal models of nephrotic syndrome [3], [4], streptozotocin-induced diabetes [5], and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) [6], [7]. Here, HBEGF is linked to nephrotic syndrome.
