Nitrosylation of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) is crucial in a Cyp2e1-overexpressing mouse model of NAFLD (Kathirvel et al., 2010) because increased levels of iNOS generates reactive nitrogen species (RNS), which nitrosylate antioxidant enzymes and decrease their activity. This evidence concerns the gene CYP2E1 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
