Nitrosylation of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) is crucial in a Cyp2e1-overexpressing mouse model of NAFLD (Kathirvel et al., 2010) because increased levels of iNOS generates reactive nitrogen species (RNS), which nitrosylate antioxidant enzymes and decrease their activity. Here, CAT is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
