A genetic polymorphism in patatin-like phospholipase 3 (PNPLA3) associated with steatosis in patients with NASH was also studied in patients with chronic Hepatitis C. In two independent cohorts of chronic Hepatitis C patients, PNPLA3 rs738490 GG genotype was independently associated with increased risk of cirrhosis as well as lower treatment response to Peg-INF/RBV and HCC occurrence [90]. This evidence concerns the gene PNPLA3 and chronic hepatitis C virus infection.
