Several FDA approved monoclonal antibody drugs, such as bevacizumab (trade name: Avastin) against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in colorectal, lung, and kidney cancer treatment, trastuzumab (trade name: Herceptin) against HER2/neu receptor in breast cancer treatment, and cetuximab (trade name: Erbitux) against epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in metastatic colorectal, head and neck cancers, have been developed and are used either as a single agent or in combination with other drugs and radiation for cancer therapy [4]–[12]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is breast carcinoma.
