MiR-34c (but not miR-34a and miR-34b) is highly enriched in hippocampal regions and its expression is further upregulated by aging (24 months old mice), in mice models of amyloidosis (12 months APP/PS1-21 mice) and in Alzheimer's disease patients (Zovoilis et al, 2011). This evidence concerns the gene APP and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
