INS and Insulin resistance: Other indices of insulin resistance such as HOMA‐IR, that uses a product of serum insulin and plasma glucose levels, have also been shown to be an adverse prognostic indicator for cardiovascular and overall mortality.10 However, the utility of direct serum insulin measurements is limited by its short half‐life.12–14 In addition to supporting the increased mortality risk associated with an insulin resistant state with C‐peptide levels, we found C‐peptide levels to be a better predictor of cardiovascular and overall mortality compared with serum insulin levels.
