This sequence was at first attributed to a new gene-within-a-gene and named ‘HSN2’ for hereditary sensory neuropathy type 2 8 but it was later revealed to be an alternatively spliced exon of the serine/threonine kinase WNK1, nestled between exon 8 and 9 of the 28 exon gene 9. The gene discussed is WNK1; the disease is hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type 2.
