Consistent with the role of inflammation-derived oxidative stress, the brains of PD patients were found to express an increased level of oxidatively modified proteins, upregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2, and decreased activity of glutathione-related genes (Rowe et al. 1998; Knott et al. 2000; Duke et al. 2007). The gene discussed is NOS2; the disease is Parkinson disease.
