The anti-Hp assay increases the diagnostic value of the “serological biopsy.” It should be noted that patients with nonspecific gastritis were younger than those with AIG, but with comparable PCA and anti-Hp positivity; this suggests the need to monitor the patients showing such histological profile by serology, for example, once a year, since AIG may occur in some of them, especially if they are genetically predisposed, such as first-degree relatives of patients with AIG or subjects with genetic variations at the ABO gene locus [24, 25].
