The pathogenesis of POEMS syndrome is not well understood, but overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), has been reported and could play very important etiological roles [2, 7, 8]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and POEMS syndrome.
