In order to explore applications of the chicken cell midbrain culture as an in vitro toxic cellular model for Parkinson’s disease, we examined the neuroprotective effect of GDNF and BDNF against MPP+ and rotenone, both of them known to perturb dopamine homeostasis and induce DA cell death in vivo and in vitro conditions (Ahmadi et al. 2003; Lotharius et al. 1999; Przedborski et al. 2000; Schmidt and Ferger 2001). Here, BDNF is linked to Parkinson disease.
