An extensive up-regulation of galanin was seen during development of sensory and motor systems (Gabriel et al., 1989; Xu et al., 1996) and after nerve injury, both in PNS and CNS (Hökfelt et al., 1987) and also, an extensive up-regulation in the basal forebrain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD; Chan-Palay, 1988a,b).
