The first known galanin receptor, galanin receptor type 1 (GalR1), was isolated from the Bowes human melanoma cell line (Habert-Ortoli et al., 1994) and subsequently rat (Burgevin et al., 1995; Parker et al., 1995) and mouse (Jacoby et al., 1997; Wang et al., 1997c) receptor was cloned. The gene discussed is GALR1; the disease is melanoma.
