Since a fusion gene between echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4 (EML4) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) has been identified in a subset of non-small cell lung cancer patients who never smoked (10), FISH was performed on our specimens using the ALK (2p23) break probe and ALK/EML4 t(2;2); inv(2) Fusion Probe (PoseidonTM, a gift from Kreatech Diagnostics, The Netherlands). Here, EML4 is linked to non-small cell lung carcinoma.
