Based on early genome-wide linkage analyses, which have established that the 10q26 locus is closely associated with AMD [123–126], several clinical-genetic studies, specifically focused on this chromosomal region, discovered two major hereditary predisposing factors for AMD: the ARMS2 [127, 128] and the HTRA1 genes [129, 130]. This evidence concerns the gene ARMS2 and age-related macular degeneration.
