It has been reported that NGF induces modification of pre-synaptic elements in adult visual system[165,166], prevents the shift in ocular dominance distribution of visual cortical neurons and promotes functional recovery of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) after ischemia[167], delays retinal degeneration in rodents with inherited retinopathy[168,169], reduces retinal damages in rabbits with ocular hypertension[170], while injection of antibody against NGF exacerbate the damaging effect on RGC[170]. This evidence concerns the gene NGF and ocular hypertension.
