HLA-B and viral infectious disease: For two viral infections with known HLA class I associations, human T lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and HCV, the presence of KIR2DL2 was correlated with enhanced protection when combined with protective HLA class I (HLA-C*08 for HTLV-1 and HLA-B*57 for HCV), but exacerbated the detrimental effect of HLA-B*54 on HTLV-1 (Seich Al Basatena et al., 2011).
